The TR3D686M010C0100 is a bipolar capacitor which is a type of capacitor that employs two or more electrodes between which a voltage is applied in order to store energy. This type of capacitor has a solid electrolyte, in this case, a tantalum pentoxide, which decreases the ESR (equivalent series resistance) of the capacitor and increases the operating temperature range up to 125°C.The functional principle of this tantalum capacitor is based on electrostatic energy storage in an equivalent series resistance. When the capacitor is being charged, electrons are being stored into the anode surface while simultaneously a large Anodic current flows. When the capacitor is being discharged, the stored electrons are released from the surface of the anode which leads to a decrease of the Anodic current. This is the reason why the ESR of this capacitor is much lower when compared with other types of capacitors.The capacitance of a tantalum capacitor is mainly determined by the amount of surface charge that the electrodes of the capacitor can store and it is highly influenced by the voltage applied across them. This means that the capacitance of this capacitor increases as the increased voltage is applied.Compared to other types of capacitors, tantalum capacitors with solid electrolyte provide improved performance at high temperature and higher capacitance in a small volume package.
