TS3431CIZT is a non-power-supplied Voltage Reference designed for providing a stable and low temperature-variation voltage reference supply. Different from the traditional voltage references, TS3431CIZT does not require any external power for operation – a great feature for power saving design. The device consists of a bandgap reference, an error amplifier and an output stage. It provides 0.5% output accuracy over the temperature range from 0℃ to +85℃ and enables a fast initial setting time of 0.1ms and low power-consumption of 0 µA.
TS3431CIZT is popularly used in many applications such as power supply monitoring and control, logic level shifting, and battery charging control among other voltage control applications.
The working principle of TS3431CIZT is based on the bandgap reference design. A simple bandgap reference consists of two transistors of the same type connected in a differential configuration and biased in the same current when exposed to temperature. The differential output formed by an NPN Darlington PNP pair is also biased to generate a stable and accurate voltage reference voltage.
The error amplifier compares the resistive differential output of the bandgap circuit and output reference voltage that is programmable by external resistors. The error amplifier drives the output stage that is composed of the Darlington PNP and NPN transistor. If a reference voltage is greater than the bandgap reference, the output stage turns on, resulting in a higher voltage output than the reference voltage set. Likewise, if the reference voltage is smaller than the bandgap reference, the output stage turns off, resulting in a lower voltage. In this way, the output of the TS3431CIZT follows the external reference voltage set by the two resistors with high accuracy.
