Data Acquisition is a process of digitizing any type of human activity into a digital code for efficient processing, storage and analysis. Data Acquisition has many components to System Architecture. The Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) is one of the most important components to this system as it converts analog signals into digital signals. One example of a successful ADC application in data acquisition is the TS7001IM8T. This product is an 8 bit precision analog to digital converter, which means it has the ability to sample analog signals with a convertion rate of 1 million samples per second. This ADC is great for applications that require accuracy, such as medical, aerospace and automotive related applications. The TS7001IM8T ADC uses a Delta-Sigma architecture which is a type of noise-shaping topology. This topology allows for the high resolution digital representation of analog signals. The main components of the Delta-Sigma architecture are the ADC Comparator, the Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) engine, and the Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC).The ADC Comparator is placed at the entrance of the ADC and compares an incoming analog signal to a band gap reference voltage. When the analog signal exceeds the reference voltage, the comparator generates a logical “1” and when it does not exceed the reference voltage, the comparator generates a logical “0”.The ADC engine is responsible for ensuring that the incoming analog signals are converted faithfully and accurately into digital words which is how the computer understand them. This is accomplished by driving(?) the signal with a modulated current pulse to prevent linearity errors and unwanted noise. After the signal is shaped and converted, it is then stored and processed by the DAC. Finally, the DAC converts the stored digital word into a corresponding analog signal. This is done by passing an alternating current through an internal resistor that generates a calibrated analog voltage. The user can either leave the output of the DAC as is or manipulate it to get the desired output. In order to use the TS7001IM8T, first the user must provide the following three operating parameters: reference voltage, analog input voltage, and digital output voltage to the chip. This can be done through the use of a digital-to-analog converter. Once these three parameters are set, the TS7001IM8T will begin to sample data from the incoming analog signal and convert it into digital words that can be used by the computer. The TS7001IM8T is an efficient and precise ADC chipset that is well suited for data acquisition and digital processing applications. Its Delta-Sigma topology provides high resolution digital representation of analog signals while its internal components ensure that the signals are converted faithfully and accurately. It is also quite cost effective and easy to use, which makes it perfect for use in medical, aerospace and automotive applications. To summarize, the TS7001IM8T ADC is an effective chip for data acquisition and digital conversion purposes. It utilizes a Delta-Sigma architecture which yields high resolution digital representation, ensures accuracy, and is cost effective. By providing the necessary input parameters, the data from analog signals can be quickly and accurately converted into digital words. Thanks to its advantages, the TS7001IM8T can be used in a variety of applications ranging from medical to aerospace and automotive.
