A TSH62CD amplifier is an instrumentational linear amplifier primarily designed for use in audio applications. It is a three-stage, single-ended, voltage-feedback amplifier with a rail-to-rail input stage, a voltage-follower stage, and a gain stage. The rail-to-rail input stage is based on input differential amplifiers featuring high output current as well as high-speed and low distortion performance.
The gain stage is single-ended and accommodates very low power consumption, enabling it to work at up to 120 kHz. It is suitable for wide-band applications, from DC to 100 kHz, offering an excellent distortion performance.
The TSH62CD is a buffered version of the classic TSH62C, and is intended for use in systems requiring high gain, low offset voltage, and excellent common-mode rejection.
The TSH62CD amplifier works by driving the collector of the output BJT to its supply rail with a constant current source. This current source is equivalent to an exogenous bias of the gain stage. The negative feedback voltage of the gain stage is then fed back to the collector of the BJT and the output is buffered by the buffer amplifier.
The output stage of the TSH62CD operates in a different mode from its predecessor, the TSH62C. It uses an output buffer stage to reduce the output impedance and to maintain a low distortion. The buffer stage consists of two bipolar transistors connected in series, one for the positive and one for the negative output voltage. The voltage on the collector of each transistor is controlled by the base-to-emitter voltage (VBE) of the other. This ensures a balanced output.
Although it is primarily intended for audio applications, the TSH62CD is also suitable for other applications such as instrumentation, data acquisition and control systems, where the amplifier is used to condition an input signal to enable it to be read by an analog-to-digital converter (ADC). It can also be used in PWM (pulse-width-modulation) control loops or for other applications requiring high-speed or rail-to-rail input/output.
