The TUSB2046BVF is a USB 2.0 compliant embedded-bus controller that provides high-speed data transfer rates. This versatile chip provides a solution for numerous USB interface applications. It is capable of being used as either a USB 2.0 enhanced-host controller or a USB 2.0 device controller.

The TUSB2046BVF is a low-cost, single-chip controller that supports both USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI) and Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI) functionality. This device has a two-level hierarchical architecture and supports up to 32 endpoints per controller. The device is compliant to USB 2.0 specifications and backward compatible to USB 1.x specifications.

Working Principle

The TUSB2046BVF uses a two-level hierarchical architecture with programmable registers. This enables data to be transferred between the host and peripheral quickly and smoothly at up to 480 megabits per second. The first layer, the Host Controller Interface (HCI), is responsible for fetching and queuing requests from the host and managing endpoints. The second layer, the Device Controller Interface (DCI), contains 32 programmable registers, each corresponding to a specific endpoint. The DCI is responsible for performing data transfers and status reports to the HCI.

The TUSB2046BVF device also contains four endpoint controls and two transfer control queues. The endpoint controls are responsible for managing endpoints. This includes the selection of an endpoint, setting the data toggle, setting the endpoint buffer address, setting the maximum packet size and managing the token and data transactions. The transfer control queues are used to queue transactions and control the direction and rate at which they are executed.

The TUSB2046BVF supports two power modes, low-power suspend mode and run mode. In the low-power suspend mode, the device will consume less than 20mA, and in the run mode, all the features and functions of the device, including 480mbps data transfers, will be enabled.
