The converter regulates the voltage output by using a linear voltage regulator, with a fixed frequency switching converter and an inductor. When the AC voltage source is first connected to the device, it will automatically switch to the converter, and the internal circuit in the device will generate a specific output voltage on the load. The output voltage can then be adjusted by varying the internal setting of the device with a voltage reference. The voltage output is then regulated, and the load connected to the output will stay the same. On the other hand, when the DC voltage is connected, the internal circuit turns on the switching converter, and a regulated output of current is generated by the inductor. This regulated output will be regulated to a specific current, and as the load changes, the output current will stay the same. UC2879DW also provides numerous safety features, such as over-current protection, over-voltage protection and short-circuit protection.
