Power factor correction (PFC) is the process of adjusting the voltage and current of a power supply so that the power drawn from the source (such as the utility grid) matches the ideal power drawn from the load. It is a critical component in many power electronics applications, from consumer electronics to industrial machinery. The UC2852NG4 is a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller which can be used for power factor correction.

The rectifier receives the synchronized output of the PWM and produces a voltage between the output and the ground.
At the end of the process, the reference rectifier will produce an output voltage value representative of the total output power. This is then used to calculate the optimal operating conditions for the converter, such as the ideal gate drive duty cycle, switching frequency, and switching frequency ratio. This is then used to regulate the supply of energy to the load, which helps to minimize the reactive power drawn from the source.
Designers can select the UC2852NG4 for use in various power factor correction applications, such as consumer electronics, industrial machinery, and renewable energy applications. It is suitable for both single phase and three phase systems, and offers a wide input voltage range, pre-programmed protection features, and on-chip diagnostics. The UC2852NG4 can provide the necessary pulse-width modulation for full load regulation and process control of the power factor corrected power supply.
