UCC28C40D is a Power Management and Integrated Circuit (PMIC) used for DC-DC switching controllers. It is the highest current member of the family of enhanced BiCMOS Universal Switch Mode Controllers. UCC28C40D stores user set parameters such as switching frequency, current sensing and over-voltage limits. It is also compatible with low cost SMPS output inductors.UCC28C40D is designed especially for applications like LED or High Brightness LED (HBLED) drivers, DC-DC converter systems, and portable computing devices, including notebooks and UMPCs. It is capable of delivering up to 4.3A peak output current and up to 18A Duty Cycle. Its feedback control loop ensures minimum possible waveform deviations, providing excellent transient response, tight line and load regulation.UCC28C40D provides essential features like Line Under-Voltage Lockout (LUVLO), Internal Soft Start (ISS), and Frequency Resynchronization (FSYNC). In addition to these features, it features a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C for a variety of commercial and industrial applications.

Working Principle

UCC28C40D has two primary power control components: a voltage feedback circuit and a high-side switch control circuit. The voltage feedback circuit senses the output voltage of the device and produces an Error Voltage that is proportional to the voltage deviation from the set point. The switch control circuit controls the output through the high-side MOSFET switch, ensuring that the desired amount of current is delivered to the output. This is done by sensing current through the current sensing resistor (CSR) and controlling the duty cycle. The output voltage is then compared to the set point, and the error voltage is used to drive the switch control circuit.
