The UCC2946D is a member of Texas Instruments’ UCC2900 series of precision power-on reset (POR) supervisors. It is designed to provide precision temperature compensation to ensure reliable power-on reset under varying environmental conditions. Additionally, the device features brownout and power fault protection as well as system reset, watchdog timer monitor and manual reset functions. UCC2946D’s POR circuit consists of a precision comparator and voltage reference circuit which allows the device to accurately detect power supply undershoots and overshoots.

The UCC2946D’s over-temperature protection circuitry monitors the junction temperature of the device. The over-temperature protection pin (OTP) asserts low in case of an over temperature event. The UCC2946D has two Watchdog Timer inputs (WDT1 and WDT2), each of which is connected to a hysteresis comparator. The WDT1 output asserts low and the microcontroller is reset when the WDT1 input is monitored at a higher voltage than the pre-determined threshold. WDT2 has an independent reference voltage, and the WDT2 output acts similarly to WDT1.

UCC2946D’s power-on reset circuit is designed to guard system safety during power-on up, power-down, power faults, and system brown-outs. The device provides an active low power-on reset output (POR) signal when the input voltage VINis lower than a pre-determined threshold. The signal remains active low until VIN is greater than the threshold for longer than the reset period. The reset period of UCC2946D can be adjusted through external capacitor, CT. CT is connected between reset output (POR) and ground pins, and the reset period is determined by the charge and discharge of CT.

The UCC2946D is an essential member of Texas Instruments’ UCC2900 series. It is suitable for a variety of application fields, including automotive, consumer electronics, industrial, and more. It provides a wide operating voltage range (3.0V - 20V), and it is rated for a maximum operating temperature range of -40°C to 125°C (TJ).
