UCC38C42DGK belongs to the PMIC - AC DC Converters, Offline Switchers. It is a wide input voltage range regulator with an under voltage lockout (UVLO) feature. It is a 1A peak (continuous 800mA) flyback converter. It is a non-isolated, fixed frequency switch mode power supply (SMPS) controller with “Burst ModeTM” operation and cycle-by-cycle current limiting. The UCC38C42DGK is designed to provide all the power conversion functions of a flyback SMPS, including turn-on, off and on soft start, over temperature protection, cycle-by-cycle current limit, and UVLO. It has a programmable regulating voltage and is designed for input voltage of 85 to 265 VAC, with an operating frequency from 40 to 150KHz. UCC38C42DGK is well suited for driving a wide variety of off-line SMPS with minimal external components.
The UCC38C42DGK is composed of several functional blocks. The burst mode control block is the heart of the system and regulates the currents and voltages in the isolated pump transformer circuit. It senses when the current and voltage of the primary winding reaches the set limits and shuts down the system, protecting it from overload and short circuits. The control block also incorporates a soft-start and OVP (overvoltage protection) circuit. The burst mode control block is followed by a voltage sensing circuit that allows the user to set a regulated voltage level to the load via a voltage control pin.
