  • UCC5350MCDR Application Field and Working Principle

    The UCC5350MCDR is a high-speed MOSFET driver which combines a wide range of gate drive functions, providing the most efficient way to switch power MOSFETs. It is commonly used for the switching applications such as Converters, DC-DC Step-up, DC-AC Inverter and Motor Drive.

    This device is a digital signal compatible MOSFET gate driver. It has two output channels with highside as well as low-side floating for driving power MOSFETs. The inputs of UCC5350MCDR can accept both high and low level signal such as PWM or Ground-Referenced control.

    UCC5350MCDR is configured for high frequency driving. It comes with a feature to adjust oscillation frequency by gain setting register. The integrated 18V internal clamping in both outputs provides significant noise immunity.

    The working principle of UCC5350MCDR is simple and straightforward. The inputs are compared with an internal voltage reference. The resulting error voltage is then fed into the error amplifier driving the internal drivers to the saturation level.

    The output of the error amplifier is buffered by two internal transistors and the resulting signal is used to drive the low and high sides of the gate driver. The low side of the gate driver is connected to the low side floating output while the high side is connected to the voltage clamps.

    The voltage clamp ensures that the drain voltage of the MOSFET stays within the safe limits. The MOSFET gate driver has an overcurrent protection feature which is activated when the current through the output exceeds the set threshold.
