The UDN2916LBTR-T is a monolithic integrated circuit designed as a 5- or 6-phase motor driver and/or controller. It is one of three ICs in the UDN series of ICs (Universal Drive and Motor Control ICs, which includes the UDN2919 and UDN2918) and is a member of the PMIC - Motor Drivers, Controllers family of ICs. The UDN2916LBTR-T has been designed to integrate the control, drive and feedback from the motor into one IC, providing a low cost and highly integrated solution for two- and three-phase brushless DC motor applications. The IC contains a high side driver and low side drivers that can be connected in either in parallel or series configuration for a 5 or 6 phase motor type. The UDN2916LBTR-T is also designed to provide a low-cost solution for two- and three-phase BLDC (brushless DC) motor applications. The integrated BLDC control logic supplies the gate drive signals for each motor phase in order to help develop a rotating magnetic field in the motor. This is done by controlling the switching of each motor phase in sequence, which creates the rotating magnetic field. The IC also includes a Hall Effect input that can be used to detect the position of the rotor, allowing the control logic to know when to switch each motor phase.
