The UPG2027TQ-EVAL is one of the leading evaluation boards designed to support customers in RF design. It is suitable for many applications such as radio frequency (RF) system evaluation, prototyping solutions and product developments. This article introduces its application fields as well as its working principle.

The UPG2027TQ-EVAL is designed to accelerate the adoption of UPG2027TQ wireless transceiver solution. It provides a complete reference design for the U-PG2027TQ transceiver and further allows customer to evaluate performance, validate different system approaches and create prototypes for their own projects. It is mainly used for wireless communication system deployment and evaluation. It can also be used in products such as vehicle-mounted wireless communication systems, intelligent sockets, low-power smart home applications, security systems and automotive stereo systems.

UPG2027TQ-EVAL is based on an open source hardware platform and thus please refer to the document entitled “UPG2027TQ-EVAL User Guideline” for other software/firmware development requirements. The main feature of the UPG2027TQ-EVAL is its support to UPG2027TQ integrated RF transceiver. It supports UPG2027TQ transceiver operating in 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11n/b/g and Bluetooth/BLE system applications. The UPG2027TQ-EVAL evaluation board works in Open/Closed loop modes, it can be configured between U.FL and TR1 type antennas for wireless coverage and range operation. UPG2027TQ-EVAL has an onboard 64 MHz oscillator.

The UPG2027TQ-EVAL provides users with the flexibility of chaining up to 2x transceivers to form a single link between the main connected systems. It also allows the usage of lower power operation in standalone applications as it can have its own dedicated power rail. The UPG2027TQ-EVAL also supports 2 different power modes; Mode 1 is for normal operation of up to 28 dBm and Mode 2 is for low power operation of up to 8 dBm. This mode allows the board to be used in small, low-power solutions where energy efficiency is required.

The UPG2027TQ-EVAL board supports Transmit Power Control (TPC) and Receive Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) measurement. The board requires an external power supply and it supports both single and dual power mode selection. It also supports Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), Digital I/O, and I2C interfaces. Additionally, the board also offers an embedded flash storage to accommodate user applications and data storage. Moreover, UPG2027TQ-EVAL evaluation board is RoHS compliant.

The working principle of the UPG2027TQ-EVAL is based on the UPG2027TQ transceiver integrated chip. The chip integrates both transmitter and receiver module, which significantly reduce design complexity and cost of wireless communication systems. It supports direct digital modulation and demodulation, allowing frequency hopping and noise immunity. The UPG2027TQ-EVAL enables users to test and evaluate the performance of UPG2027TQ transceiver chip under various environmental conditions, providing users with the necessary design insight and accurate performance assessment information before proceeding with full scale product development and mass production.
