The voltage then causes a current to flow in the direction of the cathode, which in turn activates the diode\'s clamping action, reducing the voltage on the anode side to a manageable level. This in turn prevents the transient voltage from reaching the rest of the circuit, thus preventing damage to any of the components.
The UPtb28/TR7 is designed to be used in both AC and DC circuits and is capable of providing excellent short-term surge protection.
