V10E250 is a general-purpose High Voltage Disc Ceramic EMI Suppression Varistor designed and manufactured by Kulim Malaysia. It consist of a ceramic body with two terminals. V10E250 applications include AC and DC line filtering, EMI suppression in switching power supplies and motor drive applications.

Its main working principle is based on the voltage-dependent nonlinear characteristics of varistors. It is characterised by a negative resistance characteristics and has a nonlinear voltage/current relationship that isn\'t symmetrical for both directions. The voltage across the varistor relatively increases with an increase in current. When the voltage across a varistor reach its clamping voltage,varistor can start to reduce the current and decrease the voltage. As a result, it can protect sensitive electrical components from voltage transient by clamping the voltage level.

The V10E250 varistor has an operating voltage of 250 voltage which indicates the maximum working voltage and a clamping voltage of 340V that defines the maximum allowed voltage. When the varistor is operating in the linear range, its current will be limited by its rated value indicated by the maximal allowable current. The rated current is the maximum current the varistor can sustain at rated operating voltage at 25°C.

Besides its electrical parameters, the varistor also has physical characteristics such as its size and shape. The V10E250 varistor has a cylindrical shape with a diameter of 10mm and height of 7.62mm which is a standard size widely used for EMI suppression. This also helps in the varistor’s applications in EMI filtering, motor protection, and surge protection.

The primary application of the V10E250 varistor is for AC and DC line filtering to suppress high frequency transients generated by switching power supply, rectifier, switching regulator, etc. Other applications include EMI filter, surge protection, surge current protection, motor protection, and protection against voltage surge.
