The V10E42AUTO metal oxide varistor (MOV) is a voltage-dependent device used to protect a power system against voltage and over-current transients. The V10E42AUTO MOVs provide high reliability under severe over-voltage and over-current conditions. They are designed to maintain the reliability and accuracy of the power system, even when exposed to extreme electrical stress.

When the supply voltage exceeds the varistor\'s rated voltage (VR), a large current flows through the devices and the voltage across it drops, thus protecting the power system against over-voltage. In other words, the V10E42AUTO MOVs can be used as a surge protection device to protect against large transient currents or voltage spikes. This is achieved by limiting the instantaneous voltage and current levels.

The V10E42AUTO MOV is built with a monolithic, double-layer structure. The first layer is the outer layer, which is made of metal oxide ceramic powder. The second layer is an internal, non-conductive layer, which helps keep the ceramic layer insulated and protected. The internal and external layers together form a varistor unit.

The V10E42AUTO MOVs also feature an internal temperature sensor.
