V10P60P Application Field and Working Principle
TVS - Varistors, MOVs, are surge protective devices which are most frequently used in electronic equipments and industrial systems to protect against over-voltage transients. V10P60P is one of the latest and most advanced TVS products available on the market; it has been designed for fully automated assembly and small form factor. The product offers excellent surge protection performance and provides superior reliability and stability.
Application Field
The V10P60P has a wide range of applications; primarily, it is used to protect line-to-ground and line-to-line against over-voltage transients. This product is especially suitable for use in telecommunication, industrial control, computer, metering systems and power distribution systems. Furthermore, the V10P60P offers excellent surge protection performance in the whole operational temperature range from -55°C to +125°C.
Working Principle
The V10P60P uses a non-linear metal oxide silicon resistor (MOS) design which operates as a voltage-dependent device. When exposed to an over-voltage event, the V10P60P acts as a short-circuit while allowing normal operating voltage to pass unharmed. During an over-voltage event, the resulting current flow will pass rapidly through the device to the ground, thus limiting the amount of potential energy which can be applied to the system connected to the V10P60P.
In addition, the device incorporates voltage and current limiting circuits which limits the amount of current which can pass through the V10P60P during an over-voltage event. The current limiting circuit also limits the pulse durations to a few microseconds, minimizing the damage to the system caused by the over-voltage transient.
Finally, the V10P60P also offers thermal protection which will limit the power dissipation in the device to a safe level during an over-voltage event. In addition, the product also has integrated ESD protection which can effectively protect against electrostatic discharge.
