The V140LC5 device is an unidirectional transient voltage surge suppressor. It is specifically designed for protection against high amplitude, short duration events over a limited range of operating temperatures. The working principle of the V140LC5 is based on the bi-directional current conduction capability of a transistor. When a voltage shoots up, the voltage-sensing transistor turns on, allowing the current to flow from the drain to the source. This affects the voltageDivider circuit comprising the transistor and a resistor. The result is a linear ripple–like waveform that halts the voltage surge. At the same time, the transistor then begins to conduct current through a secondary circuit, known as the “slewing circuit”. The current from the slew circuit flows into a surge absorber capacitor, which absorbs the energy from the slew circuit and dissipates it harmlessly.
The V140LC5\'s design is aimed at providing robust surge protection while maintaining low standby power consumption. It features an on-chip ESD protection circuit, which protects the device from static electricity, and an internal low-leakage diode, which limits current to lowlevels during transient conditions. Its low leakage diode also regulates the voltage levels across the single cell when the device is not connected to power.
The device is designed using an advanced BiCMOS process, which allows for improved ESD protection and enhanced surge capability. The V140LC5 is rated for 5V of max voltage. Its peak current handling capability is 10A, which is ideal for keeping the device\'s power consumption low while maintaining its surge protection performance. The device also features a peak pulse power dissipation of 600W and an energy absorption of 1500J. The device has an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, which further enhances the performance of the device.
