Application Field
The V14E230 is well-suited for surge current and overvoltage protection in low- impedance applications such as data transmission lines, power lines, communication lines, high-frequency products, broadband CATV, automotive ECUs, medical instruments, etc. It provides an effective solution for circuit designers facing board-level ESD, surge-current and overvoltage protection challenges.Working Principle
The V14E230 Varistor is based on the principle of Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) and came into being with the development of special materials in the 1960s. Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) is a voltage sensitive resistor with voltage dependent non-linearity. It is widely used in AC and DC power supply circuits for anti-surge, ESD and overvoltage protection.The main body of the V14E230 is a tin-doped indium oxide ceramic slab. When the voltage is applied on both sides, a strong electric field is formed through the tin-doped indium oxide creating change in the temperature of the Varistor. When the conducting material is heated, electrons become free and move from anode to cathode, causing the electricity to flow in the circuit. This current creates the opposite voltage, so the voltage will have a decrease in amplitude. The interface of temperature, voltage and leakage current also changes with this process. This is how the V14E230 operates as an overvoltage protection device.The temperature coefficient of the V14E230 Varistor is the most important factor. In order to ensure the accurate judging time of V14E230 and guarantee reliable operation, its temperature coefficient is adjusted lower when the temperature of the working environment is higher, giving it the ability to effectively protect circuits from overvoltage.Conclusion
