TVS (Transient Voltage Suppression) devices are a range of components designed to limit the magnitude of voltage applied to a given device. Varistors, MOVs (Metal-Oxide Varistors) and other transient voltage suppressors make up the class of TVS devices. As such, V14E30P belongs to this family of devices, and is specifically a MOV component designed to absorb transient-level voltages.
MOVs work by providing an alternative path for current between two conducting surfaces with a very wide gap between. This gap is filled with a material called zinc oxide, which has the electrical characteristic of increasing resistance as a function of voltage. When a transient voltage spike enters the system, this gap in the MOV component begins to conduct, thus reducing both the magnitude and duration of the spike.
The V14E30P in particular is designed to dissipate transient voltages of up to 30V, with a surge capacity of 540A (10/1000s). It has a standard IEC 60950-1 and VDE approval rating, and operating temperature range of -55°C to +110°C. It has an insulation and insulation resistance rating of VDE/UL up to 1750V, and is UL 1449 recognized.
