V14H420P Application Field and Working PrincipleTVS (Transient Voltage Suppressors) Varistors, MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors) are components designed to provide protection against electrical transients in the system. The V14H420P is a combination transient voltage suppressor device which combines varistor, MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) and thermal fuse in a single package.The V14H420P consists of ceramic block type varistor, MOV, and thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is connected between MOV electrodes in order to protect the MOV when the current exceeds the rated value of the device. The ceramic block type varistor supports the overvoltage protection of circuit in the high frequency range while the MOV supports the circuit in the low frequency range.The working principle of the V14H420P is quite simple. When the voltage exceeds the rated value of the device, the MOV will start conducting and divert the extra current to ground. This relieves the circuit from overvoltage and saves the component from damage. When the current exceeds the thermal fuse rated current, the thermal fuse will open resulting in the MOV no longer conducting. This will result in the whole circuit automatically shut off, protecting the circuit from further damage.The V14H420P is widely used in power supplies, AC adapters, communication equipments, server and consumer electronics.
