Working Principle
The V15P15HM3/H diode works on the principle of P-N junction. A P-type semiconductor layer is connected to a N-type semiconductor layer. The forward voltage applied across the device must also be greater than the minimum thermal voltage, Vtm, for the device to start conducting. The device will cease operating when the forward voltage drops below the VPRV. The device features low dynamic resistance and high forward current peak values, and is designed for operation under high temperature environments.
In addition to the P-N junction, the device also contains a Zener diode. When the reverse voltage is increased beyond the rated peak potential voltage, the diode will begin to break down, allowing current to flow. This allows the device to function as both a fast acting rectifier, as well as being able to perform voltage regulator and surge protection functions. The V15P15HM3/H also includes a special package that improves the air-cooled dissipation ability of the device. This allows the device to be safely operated at temperatures up to +125³C.
