The V230LA40CP is a non-electrically-conductive polymeric varistor, also known as a transient voltage suppressor (TVS). It is a specially designed, high-performance component used to protect sensitive electronic components from overvoltage problems. This surface mount package facilitates easy mounting on the PCB as compared to through-hole varistors. Designed with a low capacitance of 0.4pF typical, the V230LA40CP provides excellent commercial-grade ESD protection with a surge capability of 250V (8/20uS). The operating voltage range of this varistor is 6 to 100V AC/DC.The V230LA40CP is ideal for use in a variety ofcircuit protection applications such as switched mode power supplies (SMPS), power adapter applications, consumer and automotive electronic systems, interface and line protection circuits. It is also suitable for power over Ethernet (POE) applications.The V230LA40CP works by behaving like a semiconductor diode, allowing current to flow in one direction only. When an overvoltage transient occurs, the V230LA40CP will conduct current away from the sensitive components.The V230LA40CP limits overvoltage transients by providing a low-impedance path to the ground, thus preventing current from reaching a sensitive electronic component. The amount of current that can be diverted away depends upon the peak surge current rating of the varistor. The maximum surge current of the V230LA40CP is 4A (8/20uS).In addition to overvoltage transient protection, the V230LA40CP also provides corrosion protection and ESD protection. It features an integrated capacitor, which together with its low capacitance provides ESD performance up to 8KV. This helps to protect sensitive electronic components from electrostatic discharges.
