V230LT20CP is a MOS Varistor family device designed to protect components and systems from damage associated with voltage and/or line noise. It is designed for applications such as telecommunications equipment, consumer electronics, industrial computing, and automotive electronics.

A MOS Varistor is a special type of transient voltage suppressors (TVS) protection device which is designed to regulate the flow of electric current based on the voltage that is flowing through it. The device contains several layers of materials including metallic electrodes and protective layers which act as the dielectric. This combination of components combines to form a “barrier” between the applied voltage and the other components in the circuit, protecting them from the effects of the applied overvoltage.

The V230LT20CP device consists of a ceramic-filled, polymeric body impregnated with a proprietary silicone dioxide-filled varistor material, which is then sandwiched between two metal electrodes. The varistor material\'s electro-mechanical characteristics enable it to respond to changes in the applied voltage. The material is designed to be veryfasat and hence enables the device to respond to transients in tens of nanoseconds.

When the applied voltage exceeds the varistor material\'s rated surge breakdown voltage, the material exhibits a drop in impedance (called clamping) that limits the cumulative energy that is released into the circuit, thereby protecting it from damaging transients. The clamping voltage ofthe V250LT20CP is rated for 20V (voltage breakdown point).

The working principle of a MOS Varistor is also quite simple. When the voltage applied to the device is below its rated breakdown voltage, the device itself behaves as a resistive load and provides little to no protection against high voltage surges. When the applied voltage exceeds the ratedsurge breakdown voltage, the device quicklyconverts throughout the instant it takes for the transient to be over. In effect, the device “clamps” the signal level of the applied voltage in order to protect the circuit and its components from the effects of the applied overvoltage.

The V230LT20CP provides protection against voltage transients by limiting the amount of energy LPTs, TDRs, pulse generators, seductive testing. Additionally, the V230LT20CP is RoHS compliant, making it a good choice for customers looking to comply with environmental regulations.
