Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVS) or transient voltage suppressor diodes are a type of diode which, when exposed to a voltage spike, limit the voltage that is allowed to reach the specific peripheral component it is protecting. TVS diodes, Metal Oxide Varistosrs (MOVs) and other surge protection devices are essential components in providing overvoltage protection in power supplies, sensitive electronics, and signal lines. V275LS40C is a series of such devices.
V275LS40C application fields include low power DC-DC converters, anti-static discharge of various electronic products, surge suppressors and lightning protection for automotive and telecom systems. V275LS40C is designed to protect signals and data lines as it has an ultra-low, low capacitance of 3pF, which makes it ideal for high-speed signal applications. It also features an ultra-low clamping voltage and a peak pulse power of 6000 watts.
The working principle of V275LS40C is that when severe over-voltage transient pulses appear, the voltage rating of the MOV is exceeded and it begins to conduct current, allowing the stored energy in the MOV to clamp the excessive voltage to a safe value. It can be explained as follows. In an MOV, a conducting medium made up of zinc-oxide granules connects the conducting tapes across the gap in the middle, and a dielectric medium in the form of plastic material is in between these two tapes. The plastic material has very large dielectric strength, which means it can withstand a high voltage without breaking down. However, if the voltage level increases beyond its rating, the current flow through the MOV increases, which in turn produces high heat causing the zinc-oxide granules to expand and form a conductive path.
The V275LS40C works on the same principle. The V275LS40C is a high power, high surge, low impedance Metal Oxide Varistor with a response time of less than 5 nanoseconds. It has an ultra-low capacitance of 3pF, making it ideal for signal applications and is designed to have a peak pulse power of 6000W. The clamping voltage of the V275LS40C is so low that it can even absorb the transient energy of strike current from indirect lightning.
