V385LT7P is an electronic device designed for high current protection applications. Working Principle
The V385LT7P works by applying a high-frequency energy spike to a metal oxide varistor (MOV) device. This form of clamping action is better than clamping using a zener diode. It is able to provide higher-frequency overvoltage protection due to its ability to absorb energy more quickly. This has the effect of slowing down the voltage rise time and thereby reducing the electrical noise created by it. The V385LT7P is basically an off-state MOV with a thin-film dielectric layer sandwiched between two metal plates. This layer acts as an electrostatic shield between the metal plates. A voltage is then applied to the device, which causes the dielectric layer to break down and allow an electric current to be conducted. This current then clamps the voltage to a specific level and protects the device from overvoltage. The V385LT7P is designed to withstand surge spikes up to 800W (1/2 second) without any permanent damage to the device.
