TVS - Varistors, MOVsThe V39ZU05PX2855 is a type of voltage dependent resistor (VDR) or Spark Gap Surface Mount Varistor (SGSMV). Transients can be caused by switching, inductance or spikes in the power supply or external sources. The V39ZU05PX2855 is designed to protect the components from transients by absorbing transient voltage and converting it to harmless heat dissipation.When V39ZU05PX2855 is connected to a voltage source across a circuit, it acts as a parallel network across the supply. When the voltage exceeds the device\'s maximum working voltage (the "V.W"), the resistance of the device temporarily reduces to a low value thus clamping the transient voltage at a safe level. The increase in current results in an electrical spark, converting the excess voltage energy into heat.The device can be connected in series with the power source, in parallel with the component to be protected or both. The working principle of the V39ZU05PX2855 is based on two properties: voltage dependence and metal-oxide variation. The resistance of the device is voltage dependent; as the voltage rises, so does the resistance. This is due to the oxidation of the metal component in the device, which forms a thin insulating layer, reducing the flow of current.
