The V40PW45C-M3/I is a high power Schottky array consisting of four sets of two parallel diodes, each of which is rated to withstand a maximum current of 40A. Each diode in the array is protected against reverse breakdown stress through a built-in protective circuit. The package measures 5.1 x 5.1 x 5.1 mm, and the total area is just 0.26 in2, making it ideal for space-constrained applications.
The V40PW45C-M3/I operates in a configuration known as a bridge rectifier, which provides full-wave rectification for AC power sources. It consists of two diodes connected in series, with the other two connected in parallel with the diodes in series. When AC power is connected to the rectifier, the alternating current is converted to direct current in three steps: the first two diodes conduct on the positive half-cycle and the other two on the negative half-cycle; the average voltage is then regulated by the average current in the two pairs of parallel diodes; and finally, the two pairs of diodes in the bridge rectifier maintain the DC current in a steady state.
In terms of protection features, the V40PW45C-M3/I provides a soft start surge protection feature under stressful AC voltage conditions.
