The V460LU40CPX10 is part of the series of varistors that have been designed with the purpose of providing a form of overvoltage protection to electrical circuits. The V460LU40CPX10 variety of these varistors have been jointly designed by Vishay and Panasonic and provide an extremely efficient voltage protection method for many different types of electrical systems.
Varistors is the term used to collectively describe devices that have the purpose of protecting circuits from overvoltage transients. Some of their types and capabilities are analogous to those present in other surge protection components, such as metal oxide varistors (MOVs). The advantage of these varistors is that they can detect the presence of the overvoltage transients faster and more accurately than other forms of protection.
The V460LU40CPX10 is the latest in this series of varistors and it has been specifically designed to handle a wide range of external voltages, including those that may exceed 1000 volts peak. It’s rated up to 1500 volts peak withstanding voltage (PWV) and 350 volts RMS working voltage (WRV). It is designed for reliable protection within very small circuit boards, and with a total package size of only 2.85 mm x 3.85 mm, it is one of the smallest products of this type on the market today.
Built-in to the design of the V460LU40CPX10 is the high-speed RNS cutting realization, which greatly reduces response time in the event of an overvoltage transient. The device also features a highly efficient low-resistance low-leakage current - less than 200μA. This makes it ideal for use in situations where conventional surge protection methods are not suitable, including in medical and LED lighting applications.
The V460LU40CPX10 also has very reliable dielectric strength performance withstanding 1,000V AC at 50Hz for 1 minute without breakdown. The device further ensures a high level of safety with its very low capacitance rating of less than 6.3pF. This helps to reduce any potential effects on the signal lines within the circuits.
When mounting the V460LU40CPX10, it is important to take note of the polarity, with the two soldering points indicated as (+) and (-).
