TVS (transient voltage suppressors) Varistors, MOVs (metal oxide varistors), and the VZ47ZT3PX2855 are all widely used components in circuitry to suppress voltage transients. The below diagram shows an example of the VZ47ZT3PX2855 connected to the power line of a load. When a transient voltage spike appears, the VZ47ZT3PX2855 will absorb and dissipate the excess energy from the voltage spike.
The working principle of the VZ47ZT3PX8555 is fairly simple. It operates on the principle of variable resistance. In normal circumstances, the resistor has a low resistance, allowing normal current to flow through the circuit. However, when a transient voltage appears, the resistance of the resistor quickly increases, thus dissipating the energy from the surge. Once the transient dissipates, the resistor returns to its normal, low-resistance state and allows normal operation of the circuit.
