MOVs are non-linear devices, meaning that they exhibit a variable resistance to the flow of current, depending on the applied voltage. MOVs are a type of resistor, but their electrical behavior is not linear like most other resistors.When the applied voltage is below the breakdown voltage, the resistance of the MOV is relatively high, thus limiting the amount of current flow. As the applied voltage rises above the breakdown voltage, the resistance of the MOV decreases rapidly, allowing more current to flow.
