When a predetermined normal current level passes through it, the PPTC device behaves like an open switch; when an overcurrent condition occurs, the PPTC material heats up and its resistance increases rapidly, thus providing a "resettable" protection against the overcurrent event. When the PPTC device cools down, it returns to its normal resistance level, ready to respond in the event of another overcurrent event.
The V47ZU3PX2855 PPTC is designed for a wide variety of applications and is available with either a 12V or a 24V maximum stand-off voltage and can have current ratings ranging from 5A to 10A. The device includes a built-in hold current of 4A and a rated current of 8A. At 8A, the PPTC has a maximum operating temperature of 105°C.
