TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) is a type of semiconductor protection device that can be used to protect against electrical surges and spikes which can be caused by electrostatic discharge, inductive loading, lightning and other sources. Varistors, MOVs (Metal-Oxide Varistors) and TVSs are the most common types of semiconductor protection devices. The V625LA40AP is a Transient Voltage Suppressor diode that is designed for use in Automotive applications. It can absorb ESD (electrostatic discharge) up to 25kV contact discharge and protect circuits from voltage spikes caused by lightning.
The V625LA40AP is a low capacitance diode designed to protect a wide variety of devices and circuits in harsh automotive environments. It has a wide operating temperature range (-55°C to +175°C) and a low maximum clamp voltage of 6.25V. Due to its low capacitance it is well suited for use in high speed signal applications. The V625LA40AP is lead-less and conforms to AEC-Q101 standards and RoHS compliant.
The V625LA40AP has an 8-pin SOD-323F package which is a surface mount package type commonly used in automotive applications. The device is a unidirectional Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diode which protects circuits from high voltage ESD spikes generated by sources such as electrostatic discharge and lightning while providing a low clamping voltage. It is designed to be placed close to the input of the protected circuit.
The working principle of the V625LA40AP is based on Zener breakdown mechanism. It is a diode with a “Zener voltage” which is the voltage above which the diode starts to conduct regardless of the applied polarity.
