TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diodes, Varistors, and MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors) serve to limit or clamp transient surges of voltage, providing electrical overvoltage protection devices. TVS diodes are available in a variety of packages and voltage breakdown ratings, allowing designers to select the appropriate components for their applications. One such TVS diode is the V750ZA05, and this article will examine its typical application field as well as its working principle.

The V750ZA05 is a low-capacitance, unidirectional diode that contains a dual-protection structure consisting of a Zener diode between the anode and the cathode. The working principle of the V750ZA05 is based on its dual-protection structure, which consists of a Zener diode between the anode and the cathode. In normal operation, the Zener diode remains in a non-conducting state and does not allow a current to flow between the anode and cathode. However, when an overvoltage transient condition is present, the Zener diode will conduct and clamp the overvoltage to a safe voltage level. The Zener diode is capable of handling voltages up to 24V, so if an overvoltage transient surge of higher than this is present, the devices integrated ‘crowbar’ diodes will conduct, quickly forcing the voltage to its ‘recovery voltage’ level.

In addition to its overvoltage protection capability, the V750ZA05 also offers strong EMI (electromagnetic interference) immunity features. This includes a high common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) of more than 250V/ns, as well as an outstanding differential-mode transient immunity (DMTI) of more than 100V/ns. These features ensure that the device can reliably protect against transients that might cause EMI.

The V750ZA05 is a versatile TVS device, highly suitable for a variety of applications such as peripheral electronics, telecom equipment, consumer electronics, data lines, computer peripherals, etc. It has a wide operating temperature range and wide surge ratings, making it an ideal choice for applications that demand reliable overvoltage protection.
