V750ZA05PX2855 television surge suppressors (TVSS), commonly known as varistors, metal oxide varistors (MOVs) or transient voltage surge suppressors, are designed to provide effective surge protection and transient voltage suppression in a wide variety of applications. These devices provide total protection from large voltage spikes and provide significantly lower levels of residual noise voltage than competing products.

V750ZA05PX2855 are essentially two-layer devices with a zinc-oxide element sandwiched between two electrodes. The MOV anode is made from a zinc-oxide ceramic composition mixed with several additives to inhibit premature failure. This is then heated to form a semiconductor material. The upper and lower plates of the device are made of steel with an insulating coating, which can be silica-coated for a lower profile. The MOVs are filled with a non-flammable organic compound to increase the life of the device.

When a voltage spike or transient voltage occurs, the zinc-oxide element dissipates large amounts of energy to protect the electrical system. The MOV has a much higher voltage breakdown than the actual voltage spike, making it ideal for surge suppression. The elements are connected in series-parallel connection, with one side connected to the ground or neutral line and the other side connected to the hot line.
