These devices are used for a variety of purposes including power distribution, load driving and voltage regulation. VB525SPTR-E features two types of voltage regulation- a voltage-sensing voltage regulator, and a voltage monitoring voltage regulator. The voltage-sensing voltage regulator senses the load voltage and regulates the current in order to maintain that voltage. On the other hand, the voltage monitoring voltage regulator monitors the current going through the load and adjusts the voltage accordingly. This ensures that the load voltage is maintained even when the current changes.

The fault detection circuitry of VB525SPTR-E monitors the load current and if it exceeds the preset limit, the fault detection circuit trips and shuts down the power switch, thus protecting the appliance from damage due to overload or short circuit. VB525SPTR-E also features a thermal limit, which simply limits the current passing through the power switch if the temperature of the device exceeds a preset limit.
