VE24M00131K, also known as Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV), is a semiconductor device commonly used to protect electrical circuits against transient voltage surges. It is a device which consists of metal-oxide grains in an insulator body, and is designed to provide protection to electronic equipment against electrical power disturbances. This type of device operates by rapidly increasing its resistance by several orders of magnitude within a few microseconds when exposed to voltage spikes and/or transients.
APPLICATION FIELDS
The primary application of the VE24M00131K Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) is to protect sensitive electronic features by absorbing transient voltages and reducing the risk of damages caused by them. To provide this protection the MOVs are used to limit the voltage between two connecting lines. WORKING PRINCIPLE
The VE24M00131K Metal Oxide Varistor is composed of two parts: the varistor and the insulating body. The varistor itself is composed of zinc oxide and an alloy of manganese and bismuth, which are molded into a rod shape and then encased in an insulating ceramic material. The main active components of the varistor are the zinc oxide grains, which are the elements that will respond to electrical disturbances.
Working principle of the Metal Oxide Varistor is based on its material characteristics. Each grain has a relatively high resistance, but when voltage is applied between two electrical connections, the grains will increase their resistance rapidly which effectively suppresses the transient voltage.
