Varistors and MOVs are two popular TVS devices, designed for either surge suppression or overvoltage protection. VE24P00211K is one of the most common types of TVS devices. VE24P00211K is a Comprehensive Overvoltage Suppression Diode (COSD). It is a nonlinear, voltage-dependent device that provides a low impedance path for high energy pulses. It can provide protection for application circuits from high voltage force transients up to 450V.
When VE24P00211K is subjected to transient pulses that have higher amplitude than the breakdown voltage it will limit the voltage on the protected equipment to a safe level and clamp the voltage to ground. It has a low capacitance and is designed to clamp the peak of high energy transients. It works by clamping the sharp rising edge of surge and ESD types of voltage transients quickly and without consuming too much power.
The VE24P00211K is composed of two elements. The first element is a ceramic plate and the second is a metal pellet, allowing a current to pass when the voltage exceeds a certain level. The metal pellet is also connected to the ceramic plate via a conductive bypass gap.
