Diodes, rectifiers, and arrays are basic electronic components which are used to control the direction of electrical current, convert AC to DC, or provide a bridge between two separate AC circuits. One of the most common and popular diode rectifier arrays is the VIT4045CHM3/4W. This article will provide an overview of the application fields and working principle of this diode rectifier array.

The VIT4045CHM3/4W diode rectifier array is an integrated bridge rectifier device, delivering up to 4A of forward voltage and 8A of reverse voltage. It is widely used for power input protection, low-cost bridge rectification, and output voltage insulation in many applications, such as automotive electronics, telecommunications, display systems, and audio applications. It is also used in power switching circuits and other circuits where high frequency blocking and voltage spike suppression are needed.

The VIT4045CHM3/4W diode rectifier array consists of eight diodes in a single package. The forward voltage of each diode is approximately 0.8V and the reverse voltage is approximately 8V. The peak forward current rating of the array is 4A and the maximum surge current rating is 10A. The schematic of the VIT4045CHM3/4W diode rectifier array is shown in Figure 1. It consists of 8 diodes, two of which are connected in series to form the two arms of the bridge rectifier. The middle two diodes form a clamping diode for bypassing and minimizing the transient response during high peak current applications.

Figure 1 - VIT4045CHM3/4W Diode Rectifier Array Schematic

The VIT4045CHM3/4W diode rectifier array has a very simple operating principle. As shown in Figure 1, when a positive voltage is applied to the bridge rectifier, the two anodes of the top two diodes (D1 and D2) receive a positive charge and the two cathodes receive a negative charge. This allows current to flow in one direction only. Conversely, when a negative voltage is applied to the bridge rectifier, the two anodes of the bottom two diodes (D7 and D8) receive a positive charge and the two cathodes receive a negative charge. This allows current to flow in the opposite direction. This bidirectional current control makes the VIT4045CHM3/4W ideal for alternating current applications. The VIT4045CHM3/4W diode rectifier array is also ideal for voltage spike suppression and high frequency blocking. When a high frequency periodic signal is applied to the bridge rectifier, the transient response of the device is significantly reduced, due to the presence of the clamping diode. This reduces the levels of voltage spikes, which can otherwise cause permanent damage to sensitive electronics. In addition to its high frequency blocking and voltage spike suppression capabilities, the VIT4045CHM3/4W diode rectifier array is also highly resistant to voltage variations, making it suitable for use in a wide range of temperature and power environments. It is also RoHS compliant, making it a safe and cost effective choice for many applications.Overall, the VIT4045CHM3/4W diode rectifier array is a versatile and reliable component which is widely used in a variety of applications. Its simple design and robust features make it a popular choice for many electronic systems. The diode rectifier array is well suited for use in automotive electronics, telecommunications, display systems, and audio applications, where power input protection, low-cost bridge rectification, and output voltage insulation are of paramount importance. In addition, its exceptional voltage spike suppression, high frequency blocking, and resistance to voltage variations ensure reliable performance in all environments.
