The VN5012AK-E is a part of the Vishay Intertechnology family of Programmable Power Management ICs whose classification falls within that of Power Distribution Switches, Load Drivers. This 8-pin device is housed in SOIC-8 packages which are small in size and offer protection from a broad specturm of environmental conditions that may include wide temperature range, humidity and dust.
The VN5012AK-E PMIC includes a small MOSFET switch and a load drive for controlling voltage levels. It can work as a logic-level switch with integrated reverse voltage protection as well as a constant current/voltage driver. The MOSFET switch is designed to manage linear and switch mode power supplies which can be set between 5V and 42V. The shunt resistor feature within the device eliminates the need for external resistor placement.
The VN5012AK-E can manage multiple power supply rails providing protection and control. It simplifies the design process and cuts development time by eliminating multiple voltage requirements. This allows power supply design engineers to create an efficient power system architecture in a single IC solution. The IC also has selectable overvoltage protection ranges and overtemperature detection with latch-off protection.
The VN5012AK-E has a number of additional features including output voltage synchronization, ideal diode operation, overvoltage protection, undervoltage lockout, adaptive overvoltage protection, overvoltage latch-off, thermal overload protection, and a power good indicator. It also includes a power switch for controlling current and voltage with a maximum operating temperature of 125°C.
