VSC9802 is a low cost, ultra-low power consumption, low voltage single chip telecommunication access product developed by Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation. It has been widely used in the telecom industry for its low cost, low power consumption and small size.The VSC9802 is an ideal solution for access applications such as IP phones, Voice over IP (VoIP) Gateways, Digital Subscriber Line Modems (DSL), cable modems and wireless Femtocell stations. It provides a single integrated solution for telecom infrastructure and access applications, enabling advanced features such as IPv6, IPX and security features.The VSC9802 integrates Layer 2 switching, advanced packet processing, port interface control and MAC layer 3 routing within a single chip. The device supports 100Mbps Copper, Fiber access, Wireless LAN (WLAN) and TDM networks and applications. In addition, the VSC9802 supports advanced security protocol such as IPSec and SSL/TLS. The device also supports many advanced features such as Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE).The working principle of the VSC9802 is mainly divided into two parts: Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing. The Layer 2 switching is responsible for transferring packets between ports, or to and from other network devices. In order to perform this, the VSC9802 uses source and destination address lookup, and forwarding methodologies, such as spanning tree and link aggregation. In addition, the device also supports advanced QoS services such as customized header and header compression.The Layer 3 routing allows the packets to be forwarded to the right destination based on their IP addresses. This is achieved by using routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP and RIP to maintain reachability information on the network topology. In addition, the Layer 3 routing also includes advanced features such as Quality of Experience (QoE) and traffic shaping.In conclusion, the VSC9802 is a low cost and low power consumption single chip telecommunication access device that provides integrated Layer 2 switching, advanced packet processing, port interface control and MAC layer 3 routing functionality.
