Working Principle
The VSKH170-14D20 is an SCR-type switch consisting of two P-type junctions connected by an N-type connection. SCRs are uni-directional switching devices that suppress transient voltage spike by blocking both anode and cathode current. SCRs are non- thermal devices, meaning the current does not increase with temperature; instead, it responds only to the applied gate current across the inner electrode.
When an externally applied gate current is provided, the thyristor switches from its blocking state and turns “ON”. It makes a low impedance connection between its two main terminals, allowing the load current to flow in the direction of the applied voltage through the device. The gate can be discharged by providing a reverse bias voltage across the gate electrodes, allowing the SCR to return to its blocking state.
