Thyristor, also known as silicon controlled rectifier (SCR), is a semiconductor device constructed of four NPN elements in a single package. It is a bidirectional device with three terminals: anode (A), cathode (K) and gate (G). To turn on a thyristor the gate current is increased until the current in the thyristor is enough to overcome the inertia of the blocking voltage.
