W5200 Application Field and Working Principle
The W5200 is an embedded single-chip hardwired TCP/IP processor, produced by Reeko Electronics Ltd. The W5200 is suitable for a complete range of Internet applications, such as IP Cameras, Vehicle Bluetooth and Infrared remote control systems, IP Phones, Cloud computing networks and smartphone-like applications, etc.
The W5200 is based on 32-bit MCU architecture and provides 10/100M Ethernet PHY that allow the user to easily add a standard Ethernet connection to any embedded application. It has a built-in MAC address and integrated 16 KB RAM that is used to store data during transmission, such as TCP/IP data.
The integrated PHY layer interface supports the 10/100BASE-T-compliant Auto-Negotiation technology, allowing 10/100Mbps duplex auto adaptation. The W5200 includes one 8KB in-line memory system and integrated 8/16/32KB shared memory, it supports simultaneous data transmission between the Ethernet and host processor. The host processor can access directly to the Network PHY layer via SPI interface for sending and receiving Ethernet packets.
The W5200 supports the operating system TCP/IP protocol stack features such as DHCP, ARP, ICMP, UDP and TCP, etc. The host processor does not need to process these protocols, the packets are processed by W5200 directly. It supports up to 4 Channel independently to connect remote devices, each channel supports up to 8 simultaneous TCP or UDP connection. The low power consumption feature makes W5200 suitable for working in the battery-powered system.
The working principle of W5200 is simple, the host processor will send the actual data frames to the W5200 via the SPI interface, and then the W5200 will control the whole network communication process, so only the host processor needs to perform the status change based on the SPI interrupt.
