The working principle of the WD32-013 is based on time delayed frequency comparison. It is a highly sensitive relay, and it monitors both the average and instantaneous power frequencies to determine under-frequency events. The time delay detection algorithm allows for careful discrimination between a minor drop in frequency and an actual under-frequency event, minimizing unnecessary tripping of the power source or load.
The WD32-013 consists of a power frequency monitor and a protection relay. The power frequency monitor detects the frequency of the current and calculates the average change in frequency as well as the avergae and instantaneous values. When the instantaneous value drops below the minimum set-point, the protection relay is activated within a few milliseconds, with response times going up to 4 seconds.

Different protection levels, trip curves and time delay settings can be adjusted according to the needs of the application and the desired under-frequency protection level. It also features an isolated analog output for easy logging of the current power frequency.
