The housing features an external lever or wheel actuator which is used to open and close the armature, and an actuator spring which resides inside the housing for closing the armature and providing a snap action motion. When the actuator is manually operated, the armature moves against the actuator spring to activate the contact set. The closed contact will remain closed until the armature is again manually operated.

The working principle of the WLGL-TC-N snap action limit switch is relatively simple. When the actuator is moved through the manual operation, the armature is displaced from its home position and begins to move towards the contact set. Once in contact, the actuator spring begins to exert force on the armature, and the contact set is actuated. When the force of the actuator spring is greater than that of the armature, the contacts will close or open depending on their position. In the open contact position, an electrical circuit is opened, while in the closed contact position an electrical circuit is closed.
