The WM8716SEDS/V is a special purpose, high performance, low power, monolithic analog-to-digital converter (ADC) integrating up to 6 separate analog inputs and up to four digital audio outputs. The ADC provides a low-noise, wideband analog-to-digital signal conversion capability, with sample-rates up to 200 kHz, and an input dynamic range of 104 dB with a low power consumption of 350mW per channel.

The WM8716SEDS/V application field covers a number of areas, from industrial and consumer audio applications to digital home theater systems, broadcast and multimedia digital video systems, machine vision and medical imaging. At the core, the main usability of the WM8716SEDS/V is in the acquisition of analog audio signals. The WM8716SEDS/V\'s modulator stage follows the pre-amp, with a second-order sigma-delta architecture, to transform the analog input into a digital output. This modulator is capable of achieving up to 90 dB of dynamic range. During the modulator stage, dithering is applied to the digitized signal, to reduce overall quantization noise and produce improved audio quality.

The WM8716SEDS/V features a high-performance decoder stage to convert the sigma-delta-encoded signal into PCM outputs. This decoder is capable of decoding up to four audio channels simultaneously, allowing for multiple audio channels to be delivered in parallel to the output bus. The decoder also supports optional digital input monitoring and has the capability to detect faults and report them to the system.

In addition to its audio-to-analog conversion performance, the WM8716SEDS/V also offers advanced on-board functionalities for audio conditioning, such as gain and frequency adjustment, as well as a range of digital filtering capabilities.
