WPB7600S3CR-001 application field and working principle

WPB7600S3CR-001 is a precision voltage regulator device belonging to the family of Step-Down switching regulators. It is designed to deliver a current up to 6 amps and provides an output voltage of 0.6V to 3.3V from an input voltage ranging from 3V to 24V. It can also regulate output voltage to constant value over a wide input voltage range. Designed with very low noise performance, the WPB7600S3CR-001 is ideal for usage in low noise, high current applications such as portable electronics, laptops, PDAs and other consumer electronics.

The basic functionality of the WPB7600S3CR-001 voltage regulator is to convert an input voltage into a regulated output voltage. For this purpose, it is equipped with an intrinsically adaptive feedback control and regulation loop. The loop constitutes an ON/OFF switching regulator whose duty cycle is determined by the feedback signal. The switching regulator transfers energy from the input source to the output load with very high efficiency, providing current or voltage regulation in response to changes in the output load. As the output load increases, the voltage regulator increases the switch duty cycle, raising the output voltage. Conversely, if the output load decreases the switch duty cycle decreases, decreasing the output voltage.

In order to further improve efficiency and output noise performances, the WPB7600S3CR-001 voltage regulator features an innovative switching architecture. This switching architecture consists of a period control oscillator, a digital control block, a synchronous rectifier and a power stage. The period control oscillator generates the reference frequency for the PWM control signals. The digital control block further modulates the reference frequency in order to regulate the output voltage. The synchronous rectifier combined with the innovative switching architecture ensures a very low output noise and optimizes the efficiency of the device. Finally, the power stage drives the switching MOSFETS, providing a low loss transfer of energy from the input voltage to the output voltage.

The WPB7600S3CR-001 voltage regulator is suitable for use in a wide range of applications, from general-purpose voltage regulation to high current applications such as notebook and other low noise, high current electronic devices. With its intrinsically adaptive feedback control and regulation loop, high efficiency switch mode and innovative architecture, the WPB7600S3CR-001 is a very attractive solution for a wide range of applications requiring low voltage and current regulation in a small form factor.
