The nodes in a WSN are usually simple and inexpensive devices that communicate wirelessly with a base station. The nodes collect the data produced by the sensors, transmit it to the base station and the base station can often process the data. WSNs are especially useful in industrial, military and health care applications, where monitoring of large amounts of data is critical.
