The X40420S14-C is a single-chip 3.3V application field supervisor which monitors three system supply voltages and provides an open-drain active low reset signal. This device is offered in a small 8-pin DIP and SOIC packages. It is designed for 3V to 3.6V systems and can operate over a wide temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
The X40420S14-C is designed to protect microprocessors in 3.3V systems from undershoot and overshoot conditions, and from operating supply voltage margins that may have voltage spikes. The device also provides power sequencing support for supply sequencing and margining. It can be used to reset 3V and 3.6V systems in which the supply voltage must remain within allowed levels or the system should be reset. The device includes two programmable power-on reset (POR) timers and a self-timed one-shot (OST) circuit. The POR timers can be used independently to power on reset a 3V or 3.6V supply voltage. The OST circuit may be programmed to assert the reset after a delay of up to 10ms.
The X40420S14-C has an active low reset output (RESET) which is held low until the three system supply voltages have been detected. The RESET signal is a push-pull, active low open drain output with an operating voltage range of 1.3V to 3.6V. The RESET signal is driven low when any of the three supply voltage thresholds are exceeded. A programmable, internal Pull-up current source is used to pull up the open-drain RESET signal.
The X40420S14-C has a POR generator which provides a power-on reset signal (POR) compatible with low voltage and 3.3V microprocessors. This POR signal is generated and held low until the rise of the system supply voltage has been detected and verified. The POR generator also has adjustable thresholds for rising and falling system supply voltages. The falling threshold is used for power down reset generation.
The X40420S14-C also has an internal OST circuit that provides voltage-controlled reset assertion. The OST circuit is used todelay the assertion of the active low RESET signal for a period of up to 10ms, depending on the supply voltage. The OST circuit can also be used to delay the assertion of the reset signal in order to provide additional power-on sequencing capability.
The X40420S14-C includes an internal voltage regulator that provides a stable 3.3V operating voltage. The regulator is internally driven by the system supply voltage and is capable of supplying up to 10mA of current.
